County Kildare Orchestra wowed the audience in Caragh Church last night with an array of musical talent including festive favourites and classical masterpieces. Joined on the night by Caragh's 2 accomplished choirs - Le Cheile and Caragh Parish Choir and soprano Erin Dollard and under the baton of conductor Lorcan Daly, thte audience were treated to 2 hours of musical entertainment.
The evening began with Mozart's welll loved Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, followed by the enchanting Intermezzo Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. Both building up to the moment of the night the atmospheric and very challenging Hebrides Overture by Mendelssohn. Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, more commonly known as The Can Can, provided a rousing precursor to the elegant soprano Erin Dollard who finished off the first half with Handel's How Beautiful Are the Feet from his masterpiece The Messiah.
The second half was all about Christmas starting with the old favourite, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson. The 2 choirs both sang beautiful lesser known Christmas songs and joined together for a magical performance of Liam Lawton's Ave Maria (There is a Heart). Erin Dollard lifted the roof with her rendition of O Holy Night accompanied by the orchestra. Choirs, soloist and orchestra then joined together to bring a fantastic evening of music to a close with A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson.
A truly great evening of musical classics with the orchestra going from strength to strength and continuing to challenge themselves with more complicated and challenging material. Great compliments were heard from the audience who certainly enjoyed a great night's entertainment.
